The process of crafting a cover letter started with brainstorming around the idea of a "cover" letter. I thought, a cover, like a coverlet, a blanket. What's it for? To make a quick statement of proposition. Like a blanket statement., but in a nice way. And thus the ultra, superior, over the top eye catcher was born. The Blanket Statement!
So with my blanket statement, I melded a Limney Snickets Goth Style of writing to guide the reader. -A Stop or Go forward to the cover letter of sorts.
Notice! This cover letter is worthy of a read and will, with certainty, compel you, _________ to reply with an invitation to engage in a quality forwarding conversation with said applicant. (as certified by the head of blanket statements.)
FAIR WARNING: If you, _______are not looking for a hybrid talent that is mission and purpose driven, accustom to springing out of bed to get it done daily, then STOP, read no MORE.
Thinking of turning the page? If you must, the protocol is to read, noting the possibilities swarming in your head, like busy bees building a scenario of a possible future.
Being that the company is a start up, the position description was a bit of a mixed up salad of functional skill, managerial experience and business acumen at the experienced entrepreneur and practiced MBA level.
I'm skilled up in all the above in a deep experience way and I received a reply so quick that the reply must be attributed to the BLANKET STATEMENT addition. There can be no other reason. In fact, I was complemented on my creativity in the rapid reply. My first reply of all the resumes I have sent cold, without a business connection.
The reply was a "no go forward" and quite quick for a true look at my resume content, undeniably swift for a few clicks on my website links that demonstrate my merchandising talents and product concept to build to market real time experience and cut short for comprehension of my cover letter inclusions. I wrote back using the opportunity to address the HR person's concerns that I lack retail experience and asked her to take to look at my links and reconsider me for the current posting and for future postings. For a company in a high growth phase, looking for quick impact, I found it puzzling for the HR person to say quickly.... "we will take a pass." Not even a "looky see" to store me for future reference. huff!
My own requited thoughts...... As a funder, I would consider twice before giving capital to a company who is not curiously thinking out of the box, nor searching for a possible future with a T professional for more than the average 6 seconds that a resume gets.
Bottomline, visuals gets you through the door, if the system is set up to receive and your resume may still not get the look and consideration that properly screens you for or out of the job. Cuz the curiously creative entrepreneurs aren't necessarily housed in ____.
I guess I should have listed my Macy's and Carson's experiences in Chicago. - but then that would reveal my age.
